Try, try again...

I've always heard the saying, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again."  That's exactly what I've done with cake decorating. My first experience was  pretty much a total disaster. I took a class with Carol, a friend from work, and I had problems from the beginning. Anyway, that was a few blogs ago, and I've made two more attempts since then. I must say that they have gone much better.
This is a cake I made for Brian, Brad's brother. His birthday was a few weeks ago.
It's a far cry from perfect, but oh so much better than the cake from class. When I leveled the cakes, they did great!! No crumbling whatsoever!! I used store bought icing, so it didn't crust at all, but at least I was able to practice the basics. I just piped the Titans symbol by hand. It could use alot of practice, but I'm OK with that! My colors didn't turn out either...it's more of a baby blue and pink cake. LOL. It still tasted good though. Again, it was much better than the first one!!
I also made a cake for Carol last week. She is my baking buddy who loves cupcakes. So, what kind of cake did I make her? A giant cupcake of course!!
There wasn't really much decorating to this cake...just pipe some icing on and add sprinkles. It was still fun to make, and I am pretty sure I will get alot of use out of that pan. I had some batter left after I baked the giant cupcake, so I made some regular sized cupcakes to go along with it.
I can't wait to try another cake. Hopefully I will keep getting better. Baby steps!! :) At least I'm improving on the basics, and I'm happy with that for now.
